iPerf Test App
iPerf is a standardized network performance tool used to measure UDP or TCP throughput and loss.
The iPerf app runs an iPerf3 performance test to a NetAlly Test Accessory or an iPerf server endpoint.
How iPerf Testing Works
The iPerf software is an open-source tool that allows engineers to evaluate the performance of their network infrastructure. The test tool generates network traffic between two endpoints, a client and a server, and measures the available bandwidth. During an iPerf test, the client sends a predefined amount of data to the iPerf server, and the server measures the time it takes for the data to be transmitted. Based on this information, iPerf calculates the network’s performance metrics, which can then be analyzed and interpreted by network engineers.

iPerf Testing Limitations
iPerf is a widely used, industry-standard tool for diagnosing network issues and testing the capacity of specific connected endpoints. However, its results can be influenced by the capabilities of the devices running the tests. Test characteristics and environmental factors can also restrict the amount of traffic successfully transmitted, even when the network infrastructure has higher available bandwidth. For non-experts, these variables can make the results seem misleading, as they reflect not just the network's capacity, but the specific conditions under which the test is conducted.
NOTE: For the most accurate assessment of your network's capabilities, we recommend our Performance App for testing UDP traffic at full wired line rates.
iPerf Endpoints

The NetAlly Test Accessory runs network connection tests, uploads results to Link-Live Cloud Service, and acts as an iPerf server endpoint for iPerf tests run by other NetAlly handheld testers.

If you are using an iPerf server installed on a PC or other device as an endpoint, iPerf version 3 is required to run the LR 10G iPerf test. You can download iPerf server software from https://iperf.fr.
