Overview

The OneTouch AT Network Assistant helps save time by providing a complete set of tools for Gigabit, fiber optic, and Wi-Fi networks — including network path performance testing. This ultimate Network Assistant standardizes troubleshooting with pre-defined AutoTest profiles so field technicians can quickly isolate common problems. Full remote control capability enables collaborative troubleshooting between experienced engineers and on-site technicians, speeding up problem time to resolve trouble tickets. The OneTouch AT empowers professionals to validate and troubleshoot Ethernet and Wi-Fi access networks — reducing tests from hours to minutes.

OneTouch AT G2

Home Screen

The Home Screen shows the suite of tests that the OneTouch is configured to execute as an AutoTest with the press of the Test button. Each icon on the home page represents a different test. Clicking on the icon shows the test result, and for user-defined tests, shows its test configuration. Users can add new User Defined tests to the AutoTest by “Pressing and Holding” on an empty space on the Home Page. The suite of tests and the configuration is stored in a “Profile” with the name BASIC, as seen on the top left of the UI.

Benefits:
Complex verification tests that involved multiple tests and required multiple testers can be programmed as an AutoTest. OneTouch AT replaces the need to train technicians to use different tools (testers or PCs), each with its own multiple steps, and ensure testing is performed consistently.

Profile

Using profiles, engineers can pre-configure profiles so that technicians can use the OneTouch to automatically conduct a series of tests for the network when dispatched to a remote site.

Benefits:
During network deployment, the technician can invoke the profile to conduct the suite of tests needed to verify the deployment. (e.g. one profile for each VLAN of a class of switch, and/or a Wi-Fi SSID.)

Demo Mode Home Screen

Each User-Added Test can be run by itself, if needed. Click on Test to see the OneTouch go through an AutoTest. The Demo profile is configured to test both the Wired and Wi-Fi network in one go. When each test is complete, a green checkmark will appear. Otherwise, a red cross or a yellow warning icon will appear.

Benefits:
AutoTest can consist of multiple user-added tests. It is just a simple one-button operation for users – easy for even the less knowledgeable technician to use.

Demo Profile Test - In Progress

Testing starts with basic services, such as cable, switch port and/or Wi-Fi AP connectivity and validates functionality of basic services, like DHCP/DNS/Gateway.

Benefits:
Users can follow the progress of the test and can review the results of failed tests before the AutoTest is completed.

Then, OneTouch will perform throughput tests to an end-point on the Intranet and even to external networks as long as a performance peer is present.

Then, various user-added tests to application servers, web, email, FTP, in the intranet and/or extranet will be performed. Pass, Fail or warning results for each test is shown. This AutoTest shows multiple issues: there was a warning icon on the DHCP service test and the gateway test, and the Web Download Test failed.

Users can see the progress of the test, and can review the result of each competed test before the AutoTest is completed.

Nearest Switch Test

The Nearest Switch Test shows the speed, duplex, name, and port # of the managed switch closest to the OneTouch. VLAN configured on the switch will be shown. Tool is available to further investigate the configuration switch.

Changes in the access network often happens without documentation.Knowing exactly where you are connected gives you confidence that you are testing the right network.

Wi-Fi Analysis

Wi-Fi Analysis scans all Wi-Fi channels in the 2.4G and 5GHz bands in the background. It shows all SSIDs, AP clients and interferes detected by the OneTouch AT. It shows channel utilization with bandwidth occupied by noise. For Demo_SSID, it shows that there were 4 AP’s on this SSID.

Benefits:
Wi-Fi Analysis is run automatically when Wi-Fi test is enabled without user intervention. The information is correlated to allow drill down for quick detection.

Switch Discovery

The Switch Network Discovery runs in the background during the AutoTest. It scans the switched network for devices in the same broadcast domain or VLAN as the OneTouch, and automatically classifies the devices as servers, switches/routers, or client devices.

Benefits:
The Switch Network Discovery is automatically executed once the link to the network is established. Common problems, such as duplicate IP, overload devices, or spanning-tree changes are prominently shown. There are Tools available, such as path analysis and multi-port statistics, to allow further investigation into problems detected.

Web Download 1

The Web Download Test shows that the TCP connection was established quickly, but data transfer was slow, indicating a network error. Note: Results for both Wi-Fi and Ethernet testing are shown for the same test.

Tools such as path analysis can show the path that the OneTouch takes to get to the web server, and Telnet/web browser to see if the switch/router configuration is available to help further troubleshoot the root cause.

The Path Analysis shows that the DemoRouter supports both the Wi-Fi and Wired traffic to the web server, but it has a warning. Drilling into the router shows that the router’s interfaces were overloaded.

Network Throughput Test

Engineers can program profiles to test from its wired port against a peer OneTouch, a reflector (a LinkRunner) and against its own Wi-Fi port. Each test can be programmed with different maximum throughput, lost limit, frame size, and test duration. DSCP and protocol port # can be set.

Benefits:
Quickly verify that new high-speed links deployed have low packet loss and good jitter characteristics to support VOIP and business applications. The engineer can program in the Pass/Fail criteria based on SLA/COS requirements for technicians to run.

Test results show the maximum throughput, jitter, and latency at zero packet loss, and the packet loss at the maximum transmission rate. This result shows that the 1G link is good for VoIP that requires low latency and jitter.

Channel View

The Channel Tab shows the utilization of each Wi-Fi channel. The utilization contributed by 802.11 and non-802.11 signal on the channel is shown.

The Channel and Show All Channel allows the user to review the overall utilization of all channels, in both 2.4 and 5GHz band. Notice channel 11 has 4 APs, while there were no APs in adjacent channels.

Channel 11 view shows a utilization chart of the channel. It shows the % bandwidth occupied by non-802.11 noise and 802.11 signals over the last 90 seconds. Notice that the buttons on the right of the chart allow drill down to reveal a list of the devices on the channel: SSIDs, APs, clients, and interferers.

Benefits:
Drill down with filter allows quick refinement in scope for isolation. The trend chart supports the visualization of events in the last 90 seconds.

AP Tools

Click on the AP in question to invoke Tools for further investigation, or to locate or capture traffic to/from the AP. OneTouch AT accepts ACL lists of AP’s so that we can classify them as authorized for quick rogue detection.

Add Tests

Many pre-defined tests can be added to the AutoTest, from simple Ping, access to a URL of a web service, to up to 1G of throughput testing over Ethernet.

Setup Screen

Under the Setup menu, you can setup the Test parameters. Scroll down to see more options, such as setting up the OneTouch’s interaction with the Link-Live Cloud Portal, run advanced troubleshooting functions and more.

Click on the Wired button to see how to configure the OneTouch to connect and test an Ethernet Switch Network.

Setup Wired

The OneTouch can functionally test the speed of the network against the highest advertised value. It can request current and verify power from 30W PoE enabled switches. OneTouch accepts DHCP or static IP configuration, and can connect to a specific VLAN.

Benefits:
Connectivity and authentication settings can be customized for the switch tested, and stored into profile for easy recall.

The OneTouch can be configured to automatically send AutoTest results to the Link-Live cloud portal after each AutoTest. You can even configure it to allow remote control of the tester from Link-Live through OneTouch’s dedicated management Port over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

There is also a set of troubleshooting Tools under the Setup menu to allow engineers to conduct troubleshooting and tests without going through the AutoTest. For example, the OneTouch is capable of packet capture over Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and can perform Inline VoIP analysis of traffic between a VoIP phone and the network. It can even conduct iPerf testing over Wi-FI or Wired against an iPerf v3.0 server.

You can configure the OneTouch’s system configuration, such as the management port, set Time/Date and update the system firmware. You can move or export files that have been stored on the OneTouch to share with others, such as transfer profiles to other OneTouchs using a USB thumb drive or SD Card.

Versatile Copper, Fiber, and Wi-Fi troubleshooting

Tackle a broad range of troubleshooting scenarios with the handheld OneTouch AT G2 Network Assistant. The OneTouch AT G2 1500 and 3000 tester incorporates dual copper and fiber-optic test ports to facilitate troubleshooting of 10/100/1000 Mbps twisted pair and 100/1000 Mbps fiber Ethernet networks. The dual ports simplify inline packet capture and VoIP monitoring by eliminating the need for mirror ports or taps. The OneTouch AT G2 3000 tester adds an 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi radio with a 3×3 antenna for troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks. When connected to both wired and Wi-Fi networks, the tester displays test results side-by-side on a single page to aid in problem domain isolation. A 10G test module replaces the 1G Wired and Wi-Fi test module for testing wired 100Mbps to 10Gbps Ethernet switch port and link performance at up to 10Gbps rate.

Network Service Testing

Test DHCP and DNS server responsiveness. Identify the wired and Wi-Fi DHCP and DNS servers and view the DHCP offer and acceptance timing and lease information, and the DNS lookup time. Also, determine if a second DHCP address is being offered. If unexpected or is a potential rogue server, use the path analysis tool to track down the switch port that the device is connected to mitigate the potential network downtime and security risk.

End-to-end Path Performance Measurement

Ensure that the newly installed or upgraded wired and Wi-Fi networks meet SLA objectives and are ready for new high-bandwidth applications by measuring end-to-end path performance. Measure throughput, frame loss, latency and jitter between a local OneTouch AT and a remote OneTouch AT peer or a reflector, such as LinkRunner or NPT Reflector software. A remote peer provides upstream and downstream results, while a remote reflector yields round trip results. OneTouch AT G2 measures performance on copper and fiber networks at rates up to 1Gbps based on RFC2544 algorithm and 600 Mbps on Wi-Fi networks. OneTouch 10G can measure network performance up to 10Gbps based on Y1564 against another OneTouch 10G Peer. OneTouch can also perform iPerf test against any iPerf v3.x server or a NetAlly TEST-ACC over Wi-Fi or Wired network. It is best used to assess maximum throughput achievable for a TCP stream or network performance for UDP stream during troubleshooting.

Wi-Fi and wired client devices connectivity testing

Automatically discover Wi-Fi devices and key device properties, including new 802.11ac access points and clients. Select from among 20 context-relative sorts to obtain different views into the wireless network. For example, sort by signal strength to troubleshoot Wi-Fi coverage issues. Sort by MAC manufacturer to discover Wi-Fi devices by type and to understand how they are connected relative to SSID, AP and channel. Sort by channel to identify channel spacing and usage problems. Sort by authorization status to find potential security violations. Additional discovery-assisted analysis tools aid with troubleshooting and security enforcement. If a Wi-Fi device is also discovered via Wired Analysis, the Cross Link feature enables one-button toggling between wired and Wi-Fi analysis views.
