AirMapper™ on the AirCheck G2 or EtherScope nXG provides a quick and easy way to map out your Wi-Fi network. Allowing you to collect empirical data of the RF environment at a site and providing visibility of the wireless network coverage and performance. Still, before you can perform a site survey you need to acquire a floor plan that will allow you to correlate the measurements performed to an area on your building or site. Here are some best practices and tips to keep in mind before and after importing a floor plan into AirMapper:
1. One consideration when selecting your floor plan image/file is to minimize the amount of unnecessary white space around the outside of your floor plan because excessive white space can take up screen real estate and require zooming in just to see the applicable area.
2. Ensure that your floor plan has enough resolution to capture any key details you will need to see when conducting a survey.
3. Make sure that your floor plan is to scale. This is very important and required to accurately calibrate a floor plan.
4. Once imported, the floor plan will need to be calibrated. Calibration of the dimensions of your site ensures that propagation estimations and signal loss interpolation is calculated accurately.
Taking into consideration the tips mentioned above will help improve the accuracy of heatmaps generated after the site walkthrough has been completed. Still, there is more to take into consideration before performing a site survey with AirMapper.
