Network performance is measured between a Source device, on which the test is configured and controlled, and up to four Endpoint devices that exchange traffic with the source. There are two endpoint types: Peers and Reflectors. For an overview on performance testing please see our Tech Tips: https://www.netally.com/network-performance/performance_test_endpoints/

Peer:

When using a Peer endpoint, separate upstream and downstream measurements can be shown for Throughput, Loss, Latency, and Jitter.

Reflector:

When using a Reflector, the EtherScope nXG reports round-trip data for all measurements. Separate upstream and downstream traffic measurements are not possible.

The EtherScope nXG and LinkRunner 10G (Must be on software version: 1.6.0.13) or CyberScope can act as the controlling Source for the performance test or as a Peer for a test conducted by different source device/endpoint. Below is a list of endpoints that can be used with the NetAlly Performance Test and their capabilities:

Peer (10G Line Rate Performance Testing)

A peer will give you separate downstream and upstream values for loss, latency, and jitter.

  • EtherScope nXG
  • LinkRunner 10G
  • CyberScope
  • OneTouch 10G (The G2 unit cannot be used as a peer or reflector)
  • OptiView XG
Reflector (1G Line Rate Performance Testing)

Reflection will give you total round trip for loss, latency, and jitter.

  • LinkRunner AT
  • LinkRunner G2
  • Software Reflector (Results may vary depending on the Network Card, Driver, and other PC specifications)
    • Tested to work only on Windows 10.
    • Download the free NPT Reflector software from https://link-live.com/downloads. You will find the latest version under the EtherScope nXG heading.
