To ensure a smooth upgrade, all NetAlly software updates should be performed as a complete uninstall and reinstall of the application. This process guarantees compatibility with the latest features and fixes.

Requirements for Software Upgrade

  • Your NetAlly support contract must be current to download:
    • The latest software build
    • Updated license file
  • The upgrade process requires downloading a new license file.

Before You Upgrade

We recommend backing up the following before performing an upgrade:

Any other important configuration data

Saved project files and folders

Custom antenna patterns

Access Control Lists (ACL)

How to Back Up and Reinstall AirMagnet Surveyor Software

Before upgrading or reinstalling AirMagnet Surveyor, it’s important to back up your custom files and configurations to avoid data loss. Follow this step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Back Up Important Files

Ensure you save the following files and folders before uninstalling:

  • Survey Project Folders
  • Custom Antenna Patterns
    Location:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor\Antenna (.ant, .bmp)
  • Custom Reports
    Location:
    C:\AirMagnet Surveyor\Reports\CustomReport
  • Access Control Lists (ACL)
    Location:
    C:\AirMagnet Access (Surveyor.mdb)
  • Alias Names
    File: APAlias.txt
  • Custom Walls and Attenuation Areas
    Location:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor (WallList.txt, AreaList.txt)

Step 2: Note License Details

Record your:

  • License number
  • Serial key
  • Whether the license is tied to the MAC address of the PC or the supported Wi-Fi adapter

Step 3: Uninstall AirMagnet Surveyor

  • Go to Control Panel → Programs and Features
  • Remove AirMagnet Surveyor (do not retain license files)
  • Delete these directories after backup:
    • C:\AirMagnet Inc
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor
  • Reboot your PC

Step 4: Download and Install AirMagnet Surveyor

  1. Log in to your My AirMagnet account and download the installation file.
  2. Ensure you have the correct Wi-Fi adapter driver for your OS from the Documents/Drivers section.
  3. Run the installation file and extract it locally.
  4. Complete the installation and click Finish.
  5. Launch the program—since no license is found, you’ll be prompted to download one.

Step 5: Register and Apply License

Launch the software.

Register the license to the MAC address of the PC or supported Wi-Fi adapter.

Download the license from the website or manually from My AirMagnet account.

Save the license file to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor


    • Custom Antenna patterns:  C: > Program Files (x86) > AirMagnet Inc > AirMagnet Surveyor > Antenna (.ant, .bmp)
    • Custom Reports: C: > AirMagnet Surveyor > Reports > CustomReport 
    • ACL: C: > AirMagnet Access (Surveyor.mdb)
    • Alias Names:   (APAlias.txt)
    • Custom Walls/Attenuation Areas: C: > Program Files (x86) > AirMagnet Inc. > AirMagnet Surveyor (WallList.txt, AreaList.txt)

Upgrade/Reinstall Instructions for patch builds of AirMagnet Survey:

  1. Download the new build from the Registered Products section of the AirMagnet website under your My AirMagnet login and save it to a local directory.
  2. Run the executable and extract to a local directory.
  3. Select AirMagnet Survey Installation.
  4. Choose Repair/Update, click Next.
  5. The Installer presents the License Agreement, click Next to accept.
  6. Wait for the installation to complete. Click Finish.
  7. Exit out of the Installer.
  8. Use the Survey Update Tool to download the license (either step 9 or step 10).
  9. Start> All Programs>AirMagnet, Survey, Survey Update Tool and download the license file from My AirMagnet account and select the option to tie the license to the MAC address of the PC or to the supported WiFi Adapter.
  10. Download the license manually from the License column in your My AirMagnet login under Registered Products for AirMagnet Survey and save the file to the C: > Program Files (x86) > AirMagnet Inc > AirMagnet Surveyor directory.
  11. Launch the software to test the upgrade.

If the upgrade is not successful, then try a clean uninstall/reinstall.

New Installation? This is the order in which the software should be registered and installed:

  1. Register the serial number and download the software from the AirMagnet website (login required).
  2. Download and install the supported WiFi adapter driver from the Documents/Drivers section of the AirMagnet website.
  3. Install the AirMagnet Survey software and tie the license to the MAC address of either the supported WiFi adapter or the MAC address of the PC (your choice).
  4. Download and install the license file automatically from the AirMagnet website or manually, and save it to the directory C:Program Files (x86)AirMagnet Inc, AirMagnet Surveyor. 

Does your license begin with A4029-xxxxxxxx?

If so, this is a limited license granted to OptiView XG customers. This license is only supported running on OptiView XG which is a NETSCOUT product.  This limited license type will not install on a laptop with another type of WiFi adapter.  You will need to buy a standalone license for AirMagnet Survey Pro through an authorized Sales channel in order to install the software on a laptop along with a supported WiFi adapter. Please contact NETSCOUT technical support (www.netscout.com) for assistance with the OptiView XG.
