When you connect your LinkRunner AT-1000 or AT-2000 to a computer, you may experience a problem where the device connects and disconnects repeatedly. This prevents you from using the LinkRunner AT Manager software, as the device won’t stay connected long enough to perform any actions.
Why Does This Happen?
The LinkRunner AT appears as a drive in Windows, but it is a non-writable device. When an application or service attempts to write to the device, it can cause communication issues, resulting in repeated connect/disconnect cycles.
Writable devices like standard USB storage drives do not have this problem.
Troubleshooting Steps
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
1. Try Another USB Port
- If you are using a USB 3.0 port, switch to a USB 2.0 port.
2. Try Another Computer
- If your computer uses a company image, test the LinkRunner AT on another machine, such as a home computer.
3. Check for Conflicting Applications
Some applications may interfere with the LinkRunner AT connection. Temporarily disable these:
- Anti-virus software
- Acronis True Image or Managed Machine Services
- Dell Data Protection Services
4. Use MSConfig to Identify Conflicts
If the above steps don’t work:
- Click Start and type
msconfigin the search box. - Open msconfig.exe.
- Select Diagnostic Startup and click OK.
- Reboot your computer.
- Reconnect the LinkRunner AT. Does it work now?
If Yes:
- Launch MSConfig again.
- Go to Services and Startup tabs.
- Add services back gradually (in groups or one by one) to find the culprit.
- Once identified, disable or uninstall the conflicting application/service.
